I finally got the cheaper scanner to work, TURN THE CAR ON TO THE FIRST DETENT, PLUG the Scanner in to the ODII port and wait 10 seconds, Have PASOFT running on Computer, plug USB into and wait for the drivers to connect to the car.

I also jumped PINS 1 and 2, but didn't see the reason (other posts). One thing with these scanner, PIN 8 is wired on the scanner for input of the BMW bus, YOU NEED TO JUMPUER PINS 8 WITH PIN 7. I purchased a much cheaper one on EBAY instead of Amazon for $23.00 versus the $53.00 for the 1st scanner. I determined that it might be a scanner issue. The 1st BMW Scanner was BAD after several attempts using it, constant CONNECTION ERROR WITH IKE and also EWS. I made sure that the COM Port was also updated with the correct driver along with the USB controller. I downloaded the executable driver software from the right side of the web site. I got it to load on Windows 7 (64Bit) with the drivers from the FTDI site. I purchased my 1st BMW scanner and it came with drivers for only XP or Vista. Here's my 2-cents on the software and programming.
